Last Friday, I had to call in sick to work and decided to rent a movie while Tye was at work for the evening. Something to keep me occupied for a little while. I had heard a few people talk about this documentary named Food, INC. (In case you were wondering which you probably aren't but if you were, I have become kind of a lover of documentaries. I think some of them are pretty interesting) So, I decided to check this one out on Friday. I don't suggest it for those of you that have a weak stomach. Not that it's graphic. Just the concept what they are addressing is a little gross. Basically, the film is about what happens with your food from the farm to the supermarket. It was really interesting to see how farming has evolved over the years and really made me think about stuff that I am buying. The one thing that really stands out to me is the fact that we are a nation that deals so much with obesity and weight related diseases. We dump what seems to be tons of money into these things but we make eating healthy so very expensive. Low income families have no chance to eat healthy. Why would you eat vegetables that cost $3-$4 for one piece of veggie when you can drive to Burger King and get several hamburgers and fries for $5? It's seems so backwards. The film really challenges people to look at the products that they are buying. Buying locally from farmers markets and other such places helps vote for fresh products. Growing your own food, even just a little bit helps vote for fresh products also. Some interesting thoughts........
